Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are to use the NHS website or the NHS App at any time. Patients who have previously used the Systmonline service to order prescriptions for others can still access that service here.

These accounts show you all your repeat medicines and dosages and you can choose the ones you need.

If you require help setting up your NHS app, please call into your surgery and our patient service team will be able to help.

If you do not have access to the NHS app, or if you are ordering on behalf of someone else please use our online tool during opening hours.

You can also bring your paper repeat form to the surgery during our opening hours.

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the telephone, via email or via our reception desks.

If you require a emergency supply of your regular medication when we are not open you can request this via 111 online, call 111, or visit your usual pharmacy.

How to order a prescription 4 ways to place an order 1) Use the NHS app 2) Complete our online form 3) Drop a paper request into the surgery After you place your order: The Medicines Optimisation Team process repeat requests within 3-5 working days. Non-repeat prescription requests must be authorised by a GP or pharmacist, so may take longer. Once the prescription is signed it is sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy. Contact your pharmacy to find out how long it takes to dispense your prescription as this may vary. Controlled drugs are only issued on the day they are due. Please note: If your repeat prescriptions are not showing in your NHS app, you may need a medication review. Request your medicines by using an alternative method (listed above). A member of the Medicines Optimisation Team will be in touch if you require any monitoring, otherwise your prescription will be sent directly to your nominated pharmacy.
How to order your prescription

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription please submit your query using our online tool

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take them to any pharmacy. Do not bring them to your surgery, put them in your household bin or flush them down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

You can find a pharmacy on the NHS website.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

The Hull Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment Needs Your Input

Healthwatch Kingston Upon Hull are currently working with Hull City Council to undertake engagement as part of the Hull Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2025.

Your feedback is essential to ensuring that pharmacy services meet the needs of you and your family.

What is a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment?

The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment is a document which must be updated every 3 years, and the next one is due in October 2025. The assessment is a document which explains what people may need from pharmacies now and in the future, and will help with decisions about opening pharmacies or when pharmacies move locations.

Please click the link below to complete the survey and share your thoughts. The results from this survey will be published within the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment for Hull by October 2025.
